Physical Education Mission

The physical education program will provide a developmentally appropriate and physically challenging program that will advance the knowledge, confidence, skills, and motivation needed to engage in lifelong, physically active lifestyle.

 

Physical Education Objectives (per grade)

Grade 8 - Students will learn the principles of fitness and ascertain the knowledge to develop their own fitness plan.

Grade 7/6 Combination Class - Students will learn the five health-related fitness components (Aerobic Endurance, Body Composition, Flexibility, Muscular Endurance, and Muscular Strength)

Grade 5 - Students will learn the FITT concept of fitness (frequency, intensity, time, and type).

Grade 4 - Students will learn the components of a workout session (warm-up, main activity, and cool down).

Grade 3 - Students will learn about the most important muscle in our bodies - our heart and how it helps us to be fit.

Grade 2/1 Combination Class - Students will learn how our muscles work and help to keep us fit.

Kindergarten - The "kinders" will focus on movement and learn how movement helps us to be fit.

The following is a class by class glimpse at our overall fitness focus throughout the school year.

Grade 8: Developing our own fitness plan based on the principles of fitness (Specificity, Progression, Overload, Adaptation, and Recovery)

Grade 7:  Skill-Related Fitness Components (Agility, Balance, Coordination, Power, Reaction Time, Speed)

Grade 6: Skill-Related Fitness Components (Agility, Balance, Coordination, Power, Reaction Time, Speed)

Grade 5: FITT Concept (frequency, intensity, time & type)

Grade 4: Components of a workout session (warm-up, main activity, cool down)

Grade 2/3: Learning about our bones that help us move and perform our activities.
