Welcome to Music at St. John's!
My name is Patty Bather, and this is my sixth year teaching music at St. John the Baptist. Prior to teaching at St. John's, I received my education from the University of Minnesota and Drake University. I taught music in Iowa, and Indiana, before happily moving home to Minnesota. My husband and I live in Golden Valley and have three children.
Music curriculum is based on the national standards for music education, with grades K-8 drawing heavily from Kodaly and Orff methodology. Classes meet once week in the Music/Spanish room. Middle school music students also meet once each week for choir or the general music course, called "Bells, Movers and Shakers." Both groups are performance based, active and fun!
Students at St. John's regularly serve as music leaders for weekly liturgy, Wednesdays at 8:00 am.
The highlight of our year is our annual Advent musical. This year's program is set for December 20th in the school gym. We will also perform a spring program for our grandfriends in April.
