Athletic Mission Statement
The athletic program at St. John the Baptist School provides the opportunity for all students in grades four through eight to participate in extracurricular athletics. We also offer the opportunity for intramural sports for students in grades one through five. The following sports teams are offered:
Girls – Volleyball (August 15 – October 31), Basketball (November 1 – March 31)Boys – Basketball (November 1 – March 31)
We are currently piloting a shared sports program between the leagues of two schools, which allows us to also offer Fall soccer.
Athletic Program Goals• To promote friendships, school spirit and team unity.• To help participants develop sportsmanship, discipline, confidence, cooperation and positive team play.• To help participants develop the fundamental skills pertinent to the given sport.• To provide the experience of using the learned skills in a competitive situation.
Athletic Participation Philosophy
The priority of St. John the Baptist Athletics is to provide student-athletes the opportunity to participate. We want our teams to be successful. However, there are many measures for that success. We want each participant to feel successful as well; therefore we will strive to place them in situations where they will best find success. Each participant will be given the opportunity to improve and develop skills, as well as prepare them to handle competitive situations. While every effort will be made to provide a reasonable amount of playing time, it will not necessarily be equal. The amount of playing time will be determined by the student-athlete’s attendance, effort, attitude and conduct.
