Science

Great news!!!! St. John the Baptist has been approved for our recycling grant!  Along with the current science curriculum, the students will also be incorporating recycling and planet friendly lessons throughout the course of the year and tending to a compost pile that they will be in charge of.  This is a great opportunity to experience a different side of science and get involved with the community!

The first month of science in the 5th grade will be focused on Experimental Design, the Scientific Method and preparing for our trip to the Audubon Nature Center.  We will be learning how to design and execute scientific experiments and learning about Audubon and what they do.

Spelling/Grammar/Vocabulary

Welcome back to the first week of spelling! The students will be having a spelling pretest on Tuesday, September 5th.  The homework for this week is p. 1-6 which was handed out on Tuesday.  All spelling homework will be given out at the beginning of the week and collected and graded on Friday.

Students that recieve 3 or fewer wrong on the spelling pretest will be given an alternate spelling list which they will be tested on at the end of the week.

Weekly spelling lists can be found on the classroom connection page along with the homework assignment for the week.

Language Arts

Language Arts in 5th grade will consist of daily journal entries, writing projects and reading activities.  We will be starting out with character/plot charts and reading various stories where we will dissect the plot along with character descriptions.
